08.04.2011 - Tracy Press Publishes Article about Community Home Makeover for then 17 Year Old Kendra Kenegard

Writer: Jasmine MontgomeryJasmine Montgomery
Young Kendra Kenegard, now a local figure, a former woman of the year, and a member of the Scotts Valley ADA Committee, became wheelchair-bound when she was 17 after doctors helped remove a tumor from her spine. The family's home was not functional for Kendra's needs. The community gathered around this family to see what they could do to lighten the load in these difficult times. In the words of Peter Burke, writer of this article:

Mercedes Malloy, Kendra’s 11-year-old neighbor, wanted to help the older girl and helped hatch the remodel idea.
“She’s just been a great influence for me,” Mercedes said. “She’s a great role model.”
Peter Burke, Tracy Press

Mercedes is proud to be from a community of this generosity, one that would take action to help their neighbor and allow a young girl's passion for people to blossom through giving back. Check out the rest of the article to see the multitude of community members who came together to make this happen: https://www.ttownmedia.com/press_banner/news/an-extreme-home-makeover-for-wheelchair-bound-sv-student/article_47fbdf66-8a4e-5e9b-b971-cd1dce5ffc44.html
